After much nail-biting anxiety, it seems that Brokeback Mountain is the only film that I've been shut out of this year. The fact that I've just skimmed a half-dozen raves for it (it premiered at Venice today) only makes it sting more. I've been given a ticket to Zhang Yang's Sunflower in its stead, which can't help but seem disappointing in comparison (I missed Quitting, but Shower was fairly mediocre).
Of course, I'll be able to see the other 50-something movies that I planned on seeing, so I'll try to look on the upside of things... It certainly could have been worse.
